Meet The Gang
We’re hell bent on you enjoying your food.
We’re Lucy and Thomas. Long term lovers of each other, good food, and hanging out a lot.
We make chilli crisps, fermented honeys, chilli oils and umami sauces for people who want to eat good food, all the time. Made small batch by 3 people in Adelaide, and designed to rescue your dinner and bring you easy pleasure.
Our goal is very simple (unlike the flavour under the lid). We want you to have fun with your food, and to always feel confident and relaxed in your ability to whip something up.
Salt Gang is here to do the heavy lifting for you, whether it’s cooking for housemates, standing at the fridge door eating leftovers in a daze, the everyday dinner churn, or putting on the ritz for a proper night in.
With a stash in the pantry and fridge, you can rest knowing you don’t have to be a chef to make incredible food for the people you love.
We’re honoured to be in your kitchen, and even happier that our obsession is making your food life better.
We pay attention to every detail of what we make, because that’s what loving something asks of you.
Thanks for being here. You deserve to eat and live well.

Still hungry? More lore to chew on
We’ve been together since 2017, and cooking and eating together has always been our main thing.
When COVID doomed our big 2019 move to Viet Nam, we landed back in Australia at Lucy’s childhood home. A bit sad, more than a bit lost, and determined to spend as much of our time together as possible, we started dreaming up a different way to live.
We love food. It’s our favourite thing to think about, plan around, and do together. We’ve spent almost a decade together eating as widely as we can, taking our time through wet markets in South East Asia, obsessively honing techniques and tastes, and burying our coffee table in cookbooks.
Over the years we’ve built dozens of backyard charcoal grills, learnt the intricacies of growing our own koji, smoked and cured our own smallgoods, brewed niche styles of beer, and fermented everything in sight. Drawn always towards Asian culinary traditions and obsessed with food history, we’re constantly on the hunt for new tastes, flavour profiles, and skills.
We were never chefs, just dedicated home cooks who had been cooking for our households since we were teens. Our myriad housemates in our 20’s clamoured for our fermented honey and early prototypes of our crispy chilli oils (you can only buy so many jars from the Asian grocer before you start getting curious about making your own!), and we almost always had a friend or two dropping in for dinner.
So in early 2021 we started Salt Gang, a market stall selling chilli crisps and strange sauces to baffled but generous locals. This is now our full time family business (a big Gang welcome to Charlie, Lucy’s sibling!) and we still make everything small batch, handmade, and for you.
